Professional Development

Milltown School District is committed to the continued learning of all staff members in order to continuously improve classroom practice and increase student achievement. All staff members are required to complete a minimum of 20 professional development (PD) hours annually as related to their Professional Improvement Plan as required by the state of New Jersey. Teachers are provided with both in-service and off-site PD opportunities.

Teacher Evaluation System

In accordance with the Teach NJ Act, Milltown Schools have chosen Charlotte Danielson's Framework for Teaching as the primary tool for teacher observation and evaluation. The links below explain the Danielson framework and provide further information on the state initiative regarding teacher evaluation.

The state requires that each district select a NJDOE approved evaluation model. Milltown uses the Danielson Framework for Teaching model. This model addresses 4 domains that include planning, instruction, culture and professionalism. By collecting data on what professional development is working and tying it into information on teacher performance and student outcomes, the district is identifying what professional-development programming is and isn’t working. The district works extensively with the PD committee and DEAC chair to analyze practice scores and provide targeted PD collectively and individually.
