Students can lose up to 2 months of academic skills over the summer break. It can then take up to 6 weeks to bring students up to speed in the Fall. Milltown school district encourages parents to offer ways for students to continue learning over the summer through formal tutoring programs, practice books, and daily reading.

Library Reading Challenge
The Newbery Medal has been awarded since 1922 to the children’s book judged the best book of the year by the American Library Association. The subjects and styles of these books range far and wide, so there are books for every type of reader.
I am giving a Newbery challenge to any teachers and students who would like to accept it. Not counting any books we have already read, can you read more Newbery Medal winners this summer than I do? Prizes may include gift certificates to local businesses, award certificates, and a pizza party in the library for the winners. Add "The Crossroads" by William Alexander to the attached list as the 2015 winner.
Have a great summer, and start reading now! - Mrs. Wright, School Librarian
